Tinley Park Police Station
Tinley Park, Illinois
Key principles in the design of the Tinley Park Police Station revolved around energy efficiency, durability with minimal maintenance, and a sense of timelessness in its architectural style. The exterior remains simple in form with an emphasis on texture and symmetry. The entry features a series of canopies that provide clerestory glazing for natural day lighting. The southern exposure allows the canopies to act as solar shading devices during the hot summer months, and reduce the need for additional mechanical ventilation during regular occupancy hours. The clerestory glazing reduces the amount of time necessary to run the artificial lighting systems. Incorporation of low energy lighting in other areas results in increased electrical savings throughout the facility.
