Dr. Julian Rogus Elementary School
Dr. Julian Rogus Elementary School offers a scheme similar to the shape of a baseball diamond. Critical paths of circulation follow the base runner’s path of travel while primary colors in the finishes help direct students. The building shape provided the design team an opportunity to introduce internal courtyards thereby allowing children the benefit of an open-air forum to enjoy everyday outdoor activities without a security concern. Symmetry provides a powerful focusing effect upon the central rotunda, a key design feature asked for by the owner to accommodate the student body for assembly. The single story massing and low-pitched roof lines makes the school sympathetic to its residential neighbors.
